Balsam Falls Brewing Co

While well-known leaders in the Tampa craft beer scene, Owners Corey and Laurie Bryson, always knew they would make Jackson County home. Corey’s family roots in Jackson County go back 150 years. His parents and grandparents, local educators, had instilled in him a strong sense of responsibility to community and Corey and Laurie made the trip to Sylva often over the years. As their dream to open their brewery became reality, the couple sought to incorporate their sense of community into the business. The name of the brewery connects the highest reaches of the mountains surrounding Sylva and the picturesque waterfalls that delight locals and visitors alike.

Quickly making friends in the Sylva community, Corey and Laurie created the Founders Club to thank and recognize the many people who volunteered their time during the tap room renovations. The Founders continue to support the brewery during special events and whenever an extra hand is needed.

Our History

Like many, Corey and Laurie started fashioning small batch craft beers at home. They became active in the Tampa, FL craft beer scene and soon became award-winning homebrewers. Corey’s interest in the nuances of taste and flavor brewers develop in their beers led him to join the Tampa homebrew competition team. He became a recognized beer judge and is certified by the Beer Judge Certification Program. Corey and Laurie are both Cicerone certified beer servers.

Sustainability

Our name is inspired by our region and the natural environment. We are dedicated to protecting our natural resources and we brew with sustainability in mind. Our brewing processes minimize waste while maximizing efficiency and recycling. Much of our wastewater is recaptured for use in other brewery operations and our spent grain is used as livestock feed.
